Why you can't miss it

One morning.
Every kind of wild.

Steep climbs, loose footing, lake views — and a finish line with a DJ, a kids' zone and a hot chocolate waiting. It's a race, and it's a community morning.

  • Three distances, one backcountry

1K, 5K and 10K on Wilden's trails — with Okanagan Lake at your feet on the 10K climb.

  • Dogs run too

A chip-timed 5K dog run with its own podium for the top three, thanks to Bosley's Glenmore.

  • Kids start it off

The 1K Kids Run opens the morning at 9:30. Every finisher gets a medal, and parents run free.

The course

New routes.
No spoilers.

Every distance runs a new course this year, and we're keeping it that way until race morning. You'll get the full picture at the start line.

  • ON COURSE / 01

    Marked and marshalled

Arrows and pin flags the whole way, with race marshals on course. Your bib colour matches the arrows you follow.

  • ON COURSE / 02

    Wilden backcountry

Gravel road and single-track through the hills above Okanagan Lake. Loose footing in places — bring trail shoes.

  • ON COURSE / 03

    Swept, not lost

Volunteers on e-bikes check the signage before the gun and sweep the routes around noon, so nobody is left out there.

2026 finisher medal

Every finisher takes one home.

Every finisher gets a medal at the line, whether you run, walk, bring the kids or bring the dog.

In both the 5K and 10K, the top three female finishers, top three male finishers, and the top non-binary finisher take home a Hydro Flask trophy and a Play Kelowna gift card. Our top three dogs get prizes too, thanks to our dog sponsor Bosley's in Glenmore.

  • Technical bandana

The fund

The Wilden Legacy Fund.

Established with the KGH Foundation in 2017 — originally as the Blenk Family Fund — to strengthen the network of mental health support and services available to young people and their families in the Okanagan Valley and beyond.

The goal is to build resilience and heighten awareness. To better understand where help is needed, and to inspire meaningful, long-term improvements that help more young people navigate through troubling times.

Every dollar the run raises goes to the fund — and Wilden matches the community total every single year, doubling what you give.

Wilden Legacy Fund for Youth Mental Health

In partnership with
KGH Foundation

Where it goes

Many programs,
one community.

The programs we fund shift from year to year, chosen alongside our partners based on where the need is greatest, including research and education in youth suicide prevention. What doesn't change is where it lands: with local young people and the people who care for them.

  • 01

    Elevation Outdoors

Outdoor sports programs, personal mentorship and life-skills coaching for youth who face barriers to participation. They join us at the finish line every year.

  • 02

    This Space Belongs to You

A community mental-health project for young people in the Okanagan, on site at the 2025 run.

  • 03

    Spark Kelowna

Guided therapeutic encounters with horses that support healing and connection.

  • 04

    Foundry Kelowna

Foundry Kelowna provides free health and wellness services for young people ages 12–24, including mental health, substance use, primary care, and social supports, all in one place.

  • Raise awareness of youth mental health across the Okanagan
  • Provide free counselling to youth and shorten waitlists
  • Reduce barriers to outdoor adventure and activity
  • Create a sense of belonging for young people who need one

Since 2018

Eight runs.
One cause.

Every year the community raises it, and Wilden matches it dollar for dollar. In 2023 the McDougall Creek wildfire cancelled the run — and the sponsors declined refunds, giving $8,400 to wildfire relief instead.

What to bring.

Look after each other.

The 5K and 10K share trail in places. A bit of courtesy keeps the morning good for everyone.

  3. 03 No shortcuts.

  5. 05 Dropping out? Tell a volunteer on course so we know everyone is accounted for.

General

Where is the event and how do I get there?

The event hub is located at the north end of Union Road beside the Wilden Presentation Centre (1881 Hidden Hills Drive). The best way to get to the event is via Glenmore Road, turning onto Begbie Road.

Open the location pin in Google Maps

Where do I park?

Please note that parking is limited. We encourage carpooling wherever possible, and if you live nearby, consider walking or biking to the event as your warm-up. Parking is available on local streets, but please drive slowly and patiently, as it may get busy.

We recommend arriving 45–60 minutes before your scheduled event to allow enough time to find parking and walk to the event site.

Are there washrooms?

Portable toilets will be available near the start/finish area for your convenience.

What about water and waste?

We'd like to keep our trails and backcountry waste-free and limit the amount of waste we produce at this event. We ask everyone to bring their own water bottle or hydration backpack to stay hydrated while on the trails and at the event.

Plenty of water to refill bottles and a hydration station will be at the event hub near the start/finish line.

Where does the money go?

All the proceeds and donations from this event go towards the Wilden Legacy Fund for Youth Mental Health. This fund was established with KGH Foundation and supports projects such as Elevation Outdoors, This Space Belongs to You and the CLARITY Project, as well as research and education in youth suicide prevention.

Will there be photos?

Our photo and video team will be on site to capture fun memories from all angles — drones will capture some amazing shots from above. Event pictures will be available for download on this website after the event when ready. The event recap video will be shared via Wilden's social media channels.

Registration

How do I register, and can I get a refund?

You can sign up for one of the courses online through Race Roster until noon on Thursday, October 1st, 2026. If you have trouble registering online, please reach out.

Please note: we cannot accommodate refunds; however, you have the option to add refund protection during registration.

If you are pregnant and unable to participate, we're happy to defer your registration to a future Wild One Run within two years.

Which distances are timed?

The 10km, 5km, and 5km Dog Run are chip-timed. A mass start will kick off each event, meaning the timing starts simultaneously for all participants and stops when you cross the finish line. It's important to arrive on time for your scheduled run to ensure the accuracy of your time.

The 5km walk (with or without your dog) and the 1km Kids Run are not timed.

When and where do I pick up my race package?

With your registration for the 5km and 10km distances, you will receive a Wild One Run technical bandana.

Pre-race pick-up: Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, 4:00–5:45pm at Play Kelowna (tip: browse the store for any last-minute race essentials and goodies)

Race day pick-up: Saturday, Oct. 3 from 9:00am on site

You can pick up your own package and those of friends or family. Please bring photo ID for each participant to ensure you receive the correct package and bib. If picking up on race morning, arrive 45–60 minutes before your scheduled start.

What are the courses like?

Three distances to choose from with something for everyone, from youngsters to furry friends.

  • 1km Kids Fun Run — parents and guardians can join and support their little ones for free
  • 5km Run, Dog Run or Walk — dogs are welcome on the Dog Run and the Walk, not the 5km Run
  • 10km Run

Please note that distances are approximate and terrain may be challenging. Please come prepared with good trail shoes.

On the trail

Can I bring my dog?

Yes — on the 5K Dog Run and the 5K Walk, both of which start at 10:35am. Dogs can't join the regular 5K Run at 10:30am, the 10K, or the 1km Kids Run.

Dog handlers, please keep your dog on leash and under control at all times for the safety of other runners, attendees and dogs. Please pick up after your dog on the trails.

The top three four-legged finishers in the Dog Run are recognized, thanks to Bosley's Glenmore.

How is the course marked?

Directional arrows mark both routes:

  • 10km — orange arrows
  • 5km — blue arrows

If you forget which colour to follow, look at the colour of the number on your bib.

Additional markers and guidance include orange pin flags, tape, and race marshals along the course. Participants are responsible for following markings and reviewing course maps.

What should I wear and bring?

Please keep in mind that the terrain may be challenging. Be prepared for loose footing and uneven ground. Come prepared with good trail shoes and a water bottle or hydration backpack if you need water throughout the course.

Audio equipment of any type is not recommended, in order to be fully aware of your surroundings. If you choose to run with headphones, we ask you to keep the volume low enough to hear what's around you.

What's the first aid and safety setup?

Our first aid station, provided by MoveMed Physiotherapy, is located near the start/finish line.

Volunteers on e-bikes will check the course signage before the start, and sweep the routes around noon to ensure no one is left behind.

What's the race etiquette?
  • Dogs on leash at all times, and only on the 5K Dog Run or the 5K Walk — both start at 10:35am, after the regular 5K Run.
  • No littering on or off the course. If we see a runner leave garbage behind, that runner will be disqualified and banned from the race.
  • No shortcuts.
  • Slower runners, please yield the trail for other runners to pass.
  • Stay to your right when the trail is wide enough to allow faster runners to pass easily, and to make room where there's oncoming traffic.
  • Dropping out? If you need or wish to withdraw, please let a volunteer stationed on course know. This helps us make sure every runner is safely accounted for.
What awards and prizes are there?

Every participant receives a Wild One Run medal at the finish line.

For the 5K and 10K races, we'll award the top three male and female finishers, as well as the top finisher in the non-binary category. And because the dogs deserve their moment too, the top three four-legged finishers will be recognized thanks to our dog run sponsor, Bosley's Glenmore.

Can friends and family come watch?

Come cheer on our runners as they cross the finish line! We encourage family and friends to bring a lawn or camping chair, and feel free to bring noisemakers.

Participants found to be in intentional violation of this policy will be subject to the consequences laid out in the Inclusion & Fair Sport Policy. To be eligible for awards, participants must have entered in the gender division in which they qualify for and would like to participate in at the time of race registration.
